The 12 Days of Sabrage at the St. Regis Chicago
The weather may be growing colder, but our hearts are warming up as the holiday season is in full swing. The St. Regis Chicago is getting into the spirit as it presents a new holiday twist on a classic tradition: “The 12 Days of Sabrage.”
From December 11 to 22, The St. Regis Chicago will be hosting an exclusive holiday program for twelve consecutive days, bringing together an exciting mix of special guests to partake in the time-honored tradition of sabrage. Each evening at 5:00 p.m., a local dignitary, influencer, media personality, or celebrity will be invited as a “Guest of Honor” to perform the nightly sabrage experience with a champagne of their choice. See below for the full schedule of guests and events:

In addition to the sabrage series, each VIP participant will have a donation made on their behalf to the Pacific Garden Mission and Cradles to Crayons causes. The Pacific Garden Mission is a shelter in Chicago that serves the local homeless population and connects them to support. Cradles to Crayons is another great organization in the area that works to provide disadvantaged children with the essentials they need, such as winter coats and school supplies. This charitable component of the holiday program is The St. Regis Chicago’s way of giving back to its community and partaking in the gratitude and goodwill that marks the season.
While “The 12 Days of Sabrage” is a new event series, the art of sabrage is a St. Regis tradition dating back to 1904, when the original St. Regis Hotel in New York City was founded. The now iconic celebration is inspired by Napoleon Bonaparte who famously opened a bottle of champagne with his saber and said, “Champagne: in victory, one deserves it; in defeat, one needs it.” The tradition has retained its exciting flair at The St. Regis Chicago as the evening ritual involves dramatically removing the cork of a champagne bottle with a saber handcrafted by silversmiths in Normandy. If you have yet to see the impressive ritual for yourself, “The 12 Days of Sabrage” is the perfect opportunity.
This December, join The St. Regis Chicago in “sabering” the moment and experience the festive ambiance of the season with this unique holiday program.
