Slainte! Tis the season when everyone is Chicago is a wee bit Irish. Chicago historically has been known for having a deep-rooted Irish community, but it isn’t until March that the whole city embraces the “Erin go Bragh” energy. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated widely across the city but there is no better place to take it all in than near the center of the action from The St. Regis Chicago.
The most iconic holiday affair is undoubtedly the dyeing of the Chicago River. Dating back to 1962, Chicago has proudly dumped green dye into the Chicago River to excite the city. After years of exploration, they have finally perfected the environmentally friendly dye to last up to only a few days. Its rich emerald color marks the start of the celebrations and is hard to miss.
Located along the River, The St. Regis Chicago has one of the best views in the city for this event and can be enjoyed if you’re hosting a party from the comfort of your residence. At your party, you can’t go wrong with the color green: green décor, green cocktails and green dress code will make party guests feel truly lucky to be at the event. Guests can enjoy breakfast for dessert with the Lucky Cereal Cake from Sugargoat. Pick up is available from the West Loop location which is a short ride away from The St. Regis Chicago. And a short jaunt down Michigan Avenue, will bring you to the elevated Irish Pub, The Gage, to pick up traditional favorites like corned beef and cabbage.
The parade is back this year in full swing. Irish dancers, bagpipes and drum groups, community organizations, union groups, schools and churches are all signed up to march the route and celebrate the luck of the Irish. This year’s queen, Kelley, will be debuted at the parade along with this year’s Grand Marshal, Judge John C. Griffin. And for those that don’t want to fight the crowds along the path, VIP Grandstand seating is available for purchase.
No matter how you spend your St. Patrick’s Day, the lucky people of Chicago will always have endless options close to the heart of the city. To learn more, please visit The Residences at The St. Regis Chicago here.
